You may wonder what awaits you for your summer holiday in Austria. There are a lot of things to do and to see, especially if you choose to spend your holiday in the region Zell am See-Kaprun, whether you are a sports lover, thrill-seeker or seeking peace and quiet. There are indeed endless opportunities for active recreation: for example, a climb to the summit of the “Kitzsteinhorn” mountain (3,029 metres) or an enjoyable walk to the top of the wonderful “Schmittenhöhe” hill, the first mountain in Austria to be dedicated to art and culture.

You can marvel at the impressive artificial lakes nestling in the high mountains overlooking the village of Kaprun or enjoy magic moments attending an event of the “Zeller Seezauber” Festival. Of course, these suggestions are far from being exhaustive. Come and see for yourself!

EXCURSIONS IN ZELL AM SEE-KAPRUN

Visit the Kaprun reservoirs and experience the dam wall and the adventure world up close. You have the opportunity to climb the dam wall there. Afterwards, relax in the old town of Zell am See while shopping or enjoying a coffee. A recommendation for families is the Ferleiten Wildlife Park nearby. The animals there are really cute.

THE MOUNTAINS IN ZELL AM SEE-KAPRUN

You can experience the Kitzsteinhorn with the impressive glacier up close in Zell am See-Kaprun. The Falkenstein Hotel Kaprun is the starting point for all trips to the Kitzsteinhorn. The hotel is only 5 km from the valley station. We recommend that you enjoy the mountains there while skiing.

Areit 1400 family exhibition on the Schmittenhöhe

Even in bad weather, the Schmittenhöhe has something to offer: you can take the areitXpress to the areitXpress mountain station and up there, very close by, is the Areit 1400 family exhibition. The name doesn’t reveal too much about the content of the exhibition – there you go we’re right with you.

The name Areit 1400 refers to the altitude of the exhibition. You are at 1400m when you visit the exhibition. What can you expect from the exhibition? A whole lot! Cool vintage cars, casual scooters and retro skis are waiting to be admired. There is also a game corner for young and old.

BAD WEATHER PROGRAM ON THE KITZSTEINHORN

National Park Gallery

The National Park Gallery, 360m long, invites you to linger in bad weather. There you can look at the Hohe Tauern National Park from different perspectives in the tunnel. Once you have reached the end of the tunnel, you will find yourself on the National Park Gallery viewing platform. In the tunnel you can get different information at six information stations:

  • Creation of the Hohe Tauern and the Kitzsteinhorn
  • Permafrost
  • Glacier and Hohe Tauern National Park

Off to the highest cinema

If you want to visit the highest cinema in Austria, the Cinema 3000, then the Kitzsteinhorn is the right place for you. A 12-minute film in a continuous loop shows the high alpine natural landscape on an 8 meter wide screen.
