EXPERT TIPS ON MOUNTAIN BIKING

Markus, the bike expert from Bruendl-Sports in Kaprun, has valuable tips for you so that you can get up and down the mountain comfortably and without pain. We address the most common mistakes in mountain biking and how to avoid them. We also provide information about the correct saddle height, saddle position and much more.

The correct saddle position

It all depends on the position of the saddle: If the saddle nose points too far up, the nerve tracts are pressed in the crotch. In the horizontal saddle position (slightly downwards) the sit bones can comfortably rest on the saddle. First you adjust the saddle horizontally, you can also align it easily downwards.

The right saddle height

There is also a simple trick to optimize your saddle height. The saddle is to be adjusted so high that one can still reach the pedal at the lowest point with the heel with the leg extended. With normal driving, of course, you drive with the ball of your foot, so your leg is never fully extended. With this heel method, you can quickly adjust the saddle height while on the move.

Correct braking

Everyone knows the theory that you should brake 70% at the front and 30% at the rear. But that’s not how it is: you should just brake evenly and sensitively at the front and rear. When driving downhill, the center of gravity shifts forwards anyway and you have more braking effect on the front wheel.

The round step

Many mountain bikers pedal irregularly and use too much power to do so. The round step is best trained on long journeys on flat or continuously rising stretches in one and the same gear. An as even, round step as possible is part of the energy-saving step. The even up and down movement ensures constant movement of the pedals.

Some riders also practice the round kick with “one-legged driving”, which means clicking out one foot and kicking with only one leg. However, this requires a very good balance and a little courage. With all these tips, we wish you a nice tour on your mountain bike.
